The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is participating in numerous Research and Technological Development Projects. The Department of Agricultural Economics, in particular, carries out projects in various research areas as well as various EU projects. Also it undertook the training of scientists from Balkan, Central and Eastern European countries while issues, related to the development of these countries, are being areas of extensive research from the scientific staff of the department. This Department is deeply involved in the European Association of Agricultural Economists, through organization of international conferences on specific issues (Agro-food Small and Medium Enterprises; Problems and Prospects of Balkan Agriculture; Marketing and Food Supply), this is a factor for large dissemination of the Project's outputs to the European scientific community.
Professor Konstadinos Mattas holds currently the position of the director of the Agricultural Policy and Marketing Unit. He has served for six years in the board of the European Association of Agricultural Economics (EAAE) and he is editor of the scientific journals ‘Agricultural Economics Review’ and ‘Journal of Agricultural and food Economics’. His large experiences cover Interindustry Analysis with specialization to I-O models, Rural Development, Agricultural Policy, European Policy. His academic and administrative skills were registered by participating in many national and European projects as workpackage leader or scientific coordinator (AGRI – 2003-0660/G2, QLK5-2001-01608, 502459 MEDFROL, CARERA-022653). Professor Konstadinos Mattas, is a very experienced researcher in interdisciplinary and agro economics work. He was the coordinator of an EU project about documenting the effects of tobacco reform in Greece. He was involved in national projects on cotton competitiveness and rural development. Dr Polymeros and Dr Semos will participate in this project and they both have extensive experience in cotton research. Dr Polymeros, in particular, has been employed for ten years in the Greek cotton Board.
