The literature reference data base is an expected output of the Project and in particular of the new network of researchers concerned by the socio-economic issues related to cotton production and processing.
Although there are many literature reference data base that can be consulted, they are all classifying publications according to keywords which are not very clear on the socio-economic issues they pertain to. Consequently, the consultation leads to very large numbers of documents among which it is very difficult to identify the ones which are the most relevant to the societal issues under question.
Besides, the characterization of documents, according to keywords, also is not perfect for two reasons. First, there is no guiding tool to select the most appropriate keywords at the characterization stage. Second, there is no clear connection between keywords and societal issues raised by cotton production and processing.
by carrying out a hierarchic thesaurus connecting keywords to societal topics. Flexibility will be ensured to enable the evolution of the thesaurus along the topics our societies are emphasizing.
The approach of shared and decentralized feeding, by members of a common research group, is assumed to overcome this well-known constraint. In practice, the feeding will be contemplated through Internet.
