Giving access to various sources and leaving each one make his/her own mind
We aim at reporting the interactions between stakeholders about topics related to cotton policies in the wide sense. We are doing so through what come out newspapers and we are not taking position. We establish links with the original sources, which are in various languages, and we try to summarize as objectively as possible the contents of the articles (this is not an easy task). Besides, we try to inform about articles from both positive or negative perspective.
The Spanish Minister of agriculture announces he would not let cotton production disappear
In the prospect of the forthcoming official presentation of the new proposal of Cotton Policy in Europe, the Minister claims he will undergo bilateral negotiations with the Agricultural Commissionner. He would not accept the agony of the Spanish cotton sector and he will fight against 100% decoupling.

Farmers of one region shift from cotton to soybean production
because of lower cost and better profit. The shorter cycle of soybean enables three crops a year instead of two for cotton. Farmers nevertheless acknowledge that their place is ideal for cotton growing but they are disappointed by the lack of support from government.

Cotton producers are victims of low price for their seedcotton and high prices for the inputs they buy
This phenomenon in some part of Pakistan derives from kind of agreement between, in one hand ginners themselves and in the other hand ginners and traders. Ginners lend money to traders who use this money to buy inputs they resell on credit to farmers. Unfavorable prices to farmers result from this process. Government intervention is requested against the assumed agreement between ginners.

Brazil and Argentina are close to finalize bilateral trade without conversion in US dollar
A recent meeting between Lula and Cristina has revivified the idea of common monetary unit within mercosul, starting with their respective countries. It is expected that the bilateral trade will no longer need conversion in US dollar from the first semester of 2008. This initiative will need to establish a new payment system and a new compensation mechanism. Saving in transaction cost is estimated at 3% of the bilateral trade value.

Dialogue resumed to deal with the financial compensation to farmers
Before the ratification of the Treaty of Free Trade with the USA, the cotton growers' organisation has resumed its discussion with the government to clarify the financial compensation needed by the cotton sector which notably suffers from 25% increase of fertilizer costs. The government annonces an international consultation to determine the compensation needed by the cotton, maize and rice sectors.
