Giving access to various sources and leaving each one make his/her own mind
We aim at reporting the interactions between stakeholders about topics related to cotton policies in the wide sense. We are doing so through what come out newspapers and we are not taking position. We establish links with the original sources, which are in various languages, and we try to summarize as objectively as possible the contents of the articles (this is not an easy task). Besides, we try to inform about articles from both positive or negative perspective.
Report on the outcomes of the interviews of the Spanish cotton sector stakeholders
These interviews belong to the task of capturing the stakeholders' perception regarding the recent cotton reform in Europe. This reform has been suspended and a new proposal is under discussion. This report, in Spanish, is one of the ISSCRI Project deliverable, namely deliverable D4
Information on papers proposed to the forthcoming ISSCRI Conference, Montpellier (France), May 13-17, 2008
Papers submitted to the Conference 'Rationales and evolutions of cotton policies" come from a wide range of countries: India, Pakistan, China, Turkey, Syria, Spain, Greece, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Central African Republic, Uzbekistan...Their review is under progress. First draft of Conference program will be released soon. Online subscription also will be operational in the shortest delay.
Only a small share of the seed crushing mills fulfill the requirements of quality oil production
Several governmental organizations conveyed a press conference to reveal that, out of about one hundred mills established after the liberalisation of the oil sector, only sisteen are esquiped to refine oil suitable for human consumption. Non-conforming mills have been closed but the issue remains for consumers, when purchasing, to identify oil safely crushed. Governmental services also lack means to properly control production.

Cotton company's boss to stimulate cotton production by interacting with cotton growers
The production decrease due to unfavorable rainfalls is giving trouble to cotton growers in paying back their input credit. Farmers ask for assistance to renegotiate credit repayment with bank.

Government and cotton stakeholders have agreed on new cotton legislation
The new legislation has resulted from complaints against side-marketing which is hampering the mutual confidence between stakeholders. Producers will have to commit through contracts and comply with their commitment when marketing their seedcotton. The adoption of GM cotton is also foreseen by 2010.
