Giving access to various sources and leaving each one make his/her own mind
We aim at reporting the interactions between stakeholders about topics related to cotton policies in the wide sense. We are doing so through what come out newspapers and we are not taking position. We establish links with the original sources, which are in various languages, and we try to summarize as objectively as possible the contents of the articles (this is not an easy task). Besides, we try to inform about articles from both positive or negative perspective.
Its implementation of minimum price is being attacked by the USA
Brazil is implementing a policy of minimum price which leads to payment to farmers when world price is lower. The USA is attacking this policy. At international arena, the credibility of Brazil in asking for total phasing out of subsidy is somehow hurt. Article in Portuguese.

Federal effort to favour the access to credit and technical assistance by farmily farmers
Credit is far much lower than through the common financial market. In addition, the President Lula is advocating that family farmers must have distinct syndicate from commercial ones. Article in Portunguese

Abnormal sheep mortality still reported
As this mortality is observed on sheep having grazed on Bt cotton, the controversy opened in 2006 is continuing while official services tend to advise sheppards not lo let their animal graze on Bt cotton fields.

Positive impacts from subsidy by the Federal Government are outlined
This subsidy, accounting for about 60% of the total production cost, is enabling La Laguna Region to recover its cotton production tradition. Positive impacts on direct and indirect job creation are notably emphasized. Article in Spanish

Support to agriculture could be made fairer
This is the point of democrats and analysts. Crop area bases could be revisited to be adapted to what farmers actually grow. Payments should also be implemented only when farmers need them because of yield or price collapse.
